Sludge Gasification
We are verifying the commercial use of a sewage sludge gasification for recycling phosphorus.
By thermochemical processes biomass and organic substances can be transformed into further materials and chemicals. This is especially true for the phosphorus contained in the sewage sludge of municipal wastewater. The phosphorus content in the sewage sludge is on average 10 % P2O5 in dry matter sludge.
In the case of gasification of sewage sludge, the output product (ash) is qualitatively comparable to phosphate fertilizer. The advantage of sewage sludge gasification at an operating temperature of up to 1100° C is the production of ash stripped of a number of heavy metals and endocrine-effect substances – endocrine disruptors (EDCs).
